TRAINING

Suicide intervention & awareness training

Since 2003, we have been working in the area of mental health and suicide prevention. We are dedicated to creating awareness in the community about the causes and repercussions of suicide and mental health.

Our aim has always been to highlight these issues and promote positive mental health encouraging people in the local community to break down the barriers and stigma which stop people seeking help. We have been delivering suicide prevention and awareness training in our own unique way for many years now and offer the following:

Community Training

Life can move at such a fast pace that we sometimes miss the signs that someone around us may be struggling. A change in behaviour, withdrawing from others, expressing hopelessness or simply saying that things are becoming too much can be an opportunity to reach out, listen and offer support.

At Mindskills Training, Coaching & Wellbeing, we believe suicide prevention is everyone’s business. You don't need to be a mental health professional to make a difference. With the right training, ordinary people can develop the awareness, skills and confidence too recognise when someone may be struggling, start a conversation and connect them with appropriate support.

Many people worry that asking someone about suicide might make things worse or fear saying the wrong thing. This uncertainty can prevent important conversations from taking place. Our community training helps break down these fears and challenges the stigma and silence that can still surround suicide and mental health.

We work with community groups, families, workplaces, schools, sports organisations, businesses and volunteers, providing practical and accessible training that encourages people to look out for one another and become mental health champions.

The more people within our communities who feel confident enough to notice, listen, ask and connect, the greater our opportunity to provide support at the time it is needed. For additional support with personal challenges and wellbeing, explore our Life Coaching & Counselling services.

Mind Ur Mate & Yourself Training

Young people can experience many pressures in their lives, but they don't always feel able to ask for help.
Sometimes a friend or mate may be the first person to notice that something isn't right.

Mind Ur Mate & Yourself is a practical mental health and suicide-prevention programme designed to give young people the confidence and skills to recognise when a friend may be struggling and know what to do next.

The programme encourages young people to look out for their mates, start conversations, listen without judgement and connect someone who is struggling with appropriate support. Just as importantly, young people learn that they are not expected to deal with everything themselves and that looking after their own mental health matters too.

After completing the training, young people will:

  • Better understand mental health, emotional distress and why someone may experience suicidal thoughts
  • Understand some of the reasons why a friend may be reluctant or afraid to ask for help
  • Recognise possible signs that someone may be struggling
  • Feel more confident starting a conversation and knowing what to say
  • Know how and when to involve a trusted adult or appropriate support service
  • Understand that keeping a friend safe doesn't mean carrying the responsibility alone
  • Develop practical ways to protect and improve their own mental health and wellbeing

You don't need to have all the answers to help a mate. Notice the signs, start the conversation, listen and help them connect with the right support.

Look Out for Your Mate. Look After Yourself.

Because sometimes one conversation can make a real difference.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Look, Listen, Link – Building a Mentally Healthy School

Everyone who works with young people can make a difference.

Whether you are a teacher, classroom assistant, SEN support worker, pastoral care worker, youth worker, school counsellor, administrator, caretaker, coach or member of the wider school team, you may be the person who notices when a young person is struggling.

Sometimes it isn't the person with a particular title or qualification that a young person chooses to talk to. It may simply be someone they know, trust and feel comfortable with.

That is why Reaching Out is designed to include the whole school community.

Our practical mental health and suicide-prevention training gives staff the knowledge, confidence and skills to recognise when a young person may be struggling, start a supportive conversation and connect them with the right help.

You don't need to be a counsellor or mental health professional. You don't need to have all the answers. You just need to know how to notice, listen, ask and connect.

What You Will Learn

Through practical, accessible training, you will develop a better understanding of:

  • Young people's mental health and emotional wellbeing

  • How to listen without judgement
